AI Environmental Footprint Audit Dashboard

This dashboard estimates energy, carbon, and water impacts as bounded intervals and separately evaluates whether the estimate is externally auditable.

Audit boundary: This is an operational inference estimate for AI service use. It does not directly measure a provider's internal infrastructure. It excludes training, embodied hardware emissions, network energy, and client-device energy unless those are added as separate assumptions. Results are conditional intervals, not direct measurements.

1. Calculation Mode

Detailed mode is preferred for audit work because it uses observable workload data. Simple mode is a screening estimate only.

2. Observed Workload

Observed workload: not calculated

3. Accounting Model

Raw IT energy per request = input tokens / 1000 × ein + output tokens / 1000 × eout + media energy

Adjusted IT energy = requests × raw IT energy per request × a

Facility energy = adjusted IT energy × ρ

Carbon = facility energy / 1000 × κ

Direct onsite water = adjusted IT energy / 1000 × ωsite

Electricity-related water = facility energy / 1000 × ωelectricity

Total water = direct onsite water + electricity-related water

Unit definitions: ein and eout are Wh per 1,000 tokens. a is a dimensionless allocation, batching, or utilization correction applied to raw IT energy. ρ is PUE, facility energy divided by IT energy. κ is kg CO₂e per kWh. ωsite is L per kWh of adjusted IT energy. ωelectricity is L per kWh of facility electricity.
Double-counting warning: Set a = 1 when token energy intensities already include real serving allocation, batching, and utilization. Use a non-1 value only when the energy-intensity values need a separate workload allocation correction.

4. Energy Intensity Assumptions

Built-in defaults are scenario placeholders. A defensible audit requires a source note or citation for each critical variable.

5. Deployment Variables

6. Carbon Accounting Variables

The same kWh can yield different carbon estimates depending on whether the factor is location-based, market-based, marginal, hourly, or provider-specific.

7. Water Accounting Variables

Excluding electricity-related water means it is outside the selected boundary. It does not mean electricity generation has no water impact.

8. Auditability Disclosures

Carbon and water accounting depend strongly on where, when, and how the service ran.

Comparable claims require clear boundaries for inference, training, embodied emissions, facility overhead, procurement instruments, network energy, and water categories.

Provider Disclosure Screen

This is a static disclosure screen. It is not a live provider audit, not a ranking of environmental performance, and not a definitive assessment. It identifies what an external user would need before trusting a provider-level claim.
